How did TRU Harmony get started?

TRU Harmony started with four women & a dream of holding a singing retreat for women who love barbershop and all things a cappella — women who simply wanted to gather and spend time together for a weekend. Our founders invited their friends and those friends invited their friends, and so on and so on and so on.

At our first retreat, over 30 women from all over the country gathered together for singing, laughter & fellowship. They all had so much fun, the decision to have another retreat the following year was unanimously positive. Our second year boasted 140% more attendees than the first year; we outgrew our new retreat location before the weekend even began. More attendees meant more music, more activities, more coaching - all the things! Needless to say, the decision to continue for a third year was a foregone conclusion.

After our third year in existence, we have been thrilled to be growing consistently and to now be fully approved as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity, complete with a Board of Directors, various committees assisting in the continued growth and development of TRU Harmony, and an exciting future ahead of us! Our fourth retreat will see the return of a quartet contest, a chorus invitational, and more classes, coaching and fun. Our hope is to continue holding different kinds of events throughout the year, including educational events, shows, and competitions.
